Saturday Night Live paid tribute to Rob Reiner.

Less than a week after the filmmaker and his wife, Michele Reiner, were killed by their son, Nick Reiner, the late-night comedy sketch series included a nod to Rob — who hosted the third episode of SNL back in October 1975. (The show premiered earlier that month on Oct. 11.)

During the Dec. 20 episode, a tribute card appeared just before the show’s goodnights segment, showing a throwback photo of Rob.

The episode, SNL‘s last of 2025, saw Ariana Grande serve as host and Cher perform as the musical guest. It also marked Bowen Yang’s last as a cast member.

Rob and Michele were found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14. They were 78 and 70, respectively. Their son, Nick, 32, who has dealt with mental health issues and drug addiction since his teen years, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner released the causes of death for Rob and Michele on Wednesday, Dec. 17, three days after they were found dead. Both died of multiple sharp force injuries, and the manner of death was ruled as homicide.

Nick made his first appearance in court on Dec. 17. He wore a blue anti-suicide smock and shackles, and his attorney, Alan Jackson, declined to enter a plea for his client. Nick’s arraignment is scheduled to continue on Jan. 7.

Rob and Michele were also parents to two other children — son Jake and daughter Romy — and Rob also adopted the daughter of his late wife Penny Marshall, Tracy Reiner, from the beloved sitcom and screen actress’ marriage to Michael Henry.

Rob, whose father is the comedy legend Carl Reiner, first rose to fame on All in the Family, playing Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the CBS sitcom. The role earned him two Emmy Awards.

He is known for helming many iconic projects, including his directorial debut, This Is Spinal Tap (1984), plus Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992). Some of Rob’s other major roles include parts in Sleepless in Seattle (1993), Bullets Over Broadway (1994), The First Wives Club (1996) and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013),

Rob and Michele’s kids, Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, spoke out about the “horrific and devastating loss of our parents” in a statement days after their death.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” the siblings said. “They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
