Filip’s Story: A Little Boy’s Fight to Smile Again
We never imagined that one day we would have to ask for help. As parents, all we ever wanted was to give our son, Filip, a happy, carefree childhood filled with laughter, love, and safety. For the first years of his life, that is exactly what he had. He was a joyful, curious little boy—full of energy, innocence, and trust.
But one moment changed everything.
It happened during a family gathering, a day that should have been ordinary, lighthearted, and safe. Surrounded by loved ones, Filip played and smiled the way he always did. None of us could have predicted the nightmare that would unfold in an instant.
There was a dog there that day—a dog we had known for years. He was not a stranger, not an animal we had ever feared. This dog had been around children before, and never once had he shown aggression. We trusted him. Filip turned his little face toward the dog, maybe out of curiosity, maybe simply to look at him.
And then, in the blink of an eye, it happened.

The dog lunged at Filip, biting his face with such force that part of his cheek was torn away. The sound of our son’s scream is something that will forever haunt us. His innocent face, the face we kissed and cherished every day, was suddenly bloodied, broken, and wounded in the most unimaginable way. We rushed to him, our hearts breaking, as we tried to stop the bleeding and comfort him. But nothing could erase the horror of what had just happened.
In that moment, our little boy’s life was changed forever.
We raced to the hospital, where Filip was admitted straight into the maxillofacial surgery department. His wound was severe and required immediate and complex surgery. The surgeons worked tirelessly, and though they did everything possible to repair the damage, the road ahead was clear: this was only the beginning of a long and painful journey.
After the surgery, Filip was placed into a medically induced coma. For three endless days, we could not see his eyes, hear his voice, or feel his tiny hands gripping ours the way he always did. We sat beside his bed, praying and begging for him to wake up. Every second stretched into eternity, filled with fear, guilt, and anguish. How could this have happened? Why our little boy?
When he was finally brought out of the coma, relief washed over us—but it was quickly replaced with the reality of his condition. His wound stretched from the corner of his mouth all the way to his ear, continuing downward. The stitches were long, raw, and painful to look at. Even worse, necrosis of the skin began to appear, complicating the healing process. Every dressing change was excruciating, not only for him but for us as parents. To watch him suffer and know that his pain was only just beginning—it shattered us.

Filip spent weeks in the hospital. Each day brought consultations, examinations, and procedures. We held his hand, we whispered to him, we told him he was brave and that everything would be okay—even though deep down, we ourselves were terrified of what the future would bring.
Today, Filip is fighting. And we are fighting with him. When we look into his innocent eyes—eyes that still shine with love and trust despite all he has endured—we make ourselves a promise: we will do everything in our power to help him heal, to give him back his childhood, to let him smile again without shame or pain.
But the truth is, the journey is far from over.
The initial surgery saved his life and repaired the immediate damage, but Filip will need many more procedures in the months and years to come. Plastic and reconstructive surgeries, scar treatments, and corrections of the corner of his mouth are only the beginning. These are not optional procedures—they are essential for him to regain function, confidence, and quality of life.
Unfortunately, the cost of these treatments is enormous. The specialized care he requires is not something we can fully access through the public healthcare system. We are consulting with experts, seeking out the best surgeons, and preparing for a long road of treatments—but each step forward comes with overwhelming financial strain.

As parents, we would give everything we have to make sure Filip gets what he needs. But the reality is that we cannot do this alone.
That is why we are reaching out to you.
We ask, from the bottom of our hearts, for your help. Every contribution—no matter how small—is a step closer to helping our son heal, to reducing his pain, and to giving him the chance to grow up without the shadow of these scars defining him.
We want Filip to smile again without fear. We want him to go to school one day, to make friends, to laugh freely, and to feel proud of who he is. We want him to live without being reminded, every time he looks in the mirror, of the moment that took so much from him.
We know the scars will never completely disappear. They will always be a part of him, a reminder of the battle he fought so young. But with the right care, with surgery, treatment, and support, those scars do not have to define his future.
Filip is more than his injury. He is a beautiful, brave, and loving little boy who deserves the same chance at happiness as any other child.
And so, we ask you: please, help us fight for his future.
From the deepest place in our hearts, thank you—for every donation, every kind word, and every prayer. Your support means more than we can ever express. It is hope. It is strength. It is the chance for our little boy to find joy again.
This journey will be long, but we believe that with love, determination, and your help, Filip can face the future with courage. Together, we can give him not only healing but also the priceless gift of a smile.
